Why Josh Norman And The 49ers Would Make A Lot Of Sense
Pairing Richard Sherman and Josh Norman would give the 49ers one of the most intriguing cornerback duos in the entire NFL. Both players were among the league’s elite names just a few short years ago. Now, they both have their doubters and critics.
Norman may not have had a consistent role in 2019 for Washington, but he still showed he has plenty of football left in the tank.
San Francisco wouldn’t be asking Norman to come in and be an elite shutdown corner. They would be asking him to be a solid No. 2 option. Sherman still has the ability to be a No. 1 cornerback.
At 32 years old, Norman will be looking for an opportunity that can give him the chance to compete for a Super Bowl. Very few teams can give that opportunity, but the 49ers have the proof that they can.
Both sides would be getting something they need out of their marriage. San Francisco would be getting an upgrade at cornerback, while Norman would be joining a hard-nosed defense with elite stars and big names and would be able to compete for a ring.
There will be plenty of other teams interested in signing Norman as well, but the 49ers can offer him the full package.
Expect to see John Lynch and the 49ers actively pursue a cornerback in free agency or the NFL Draft. If they want to get past teams with elite offenses like Mahomes and the Chiefs, bringing in a guy like Norman is a must.
