Teams Would Give Up Valuable Draft Compensation
The biggest reason that the Falcons should consider trading Matt Ryan at the trade deadline is because of the picks they would be able to get back in return. His base salary is really low (just barely over $1 million) which would make him a more viable option for teams to be able to make a deal work in the middle of the season.
Teams like the Chicago Bears or the Dallas Cowboys that are still in the playoff hunt might be willing to give up a draft pick or two for a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback.
The more draft capital the Falcons can accumulate between now and next year’s draft will help the team select a well-rounded roster.
With lots of holes, Atlanta shouldn’t say no to more young players with the potential of becoming regular starters.
