The Arizona Cardinals are entering the NFL offseason with a major need at the running back position. Kenyan Drake is set to hit free agency, although the team has made it clear that they want to re-sign him. David Johnson is still on the roster, but the franchise doesn’t seem terribly interested in him being their long-term starter.
Drake is going to receive a lot of interest on the open free agency market. That could lead to him signing elsewhere. If that happens, and even if it doesn’t, Arizona could be looking at the 2020 NFL Draft for a running back.
There is one prospect that could immediately come in and play a role. Ohio State standout running back J.K. Dobbins has flown up draft boards and is projected to be a late first or early second round pick.
Last season at Ohio State, Dobbins carried the football 301 times for 2,003 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also caught 23 passes for 247 yards and two more scores.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at two huge reasons the Cardinals should target Dobbins with the No. 40 overall pick.
