Why the Chargers should consider moving down in the first round of the NFL Draft

Jordan Love, Patriots, NFL Draft

If the Chargers do move back into the 15-20 range, they could still draft a very solid player there. Since they already have Taylor inked in as the starter for at least this season, drafting a quarterback to groom for the future is a definite possibility. Especially given the fact that Taylor is 30-years-old and only has one more year remaining on his current deal.

Jordan Love would be a great pick for LA, since most scouts agree Love could use a year of development before getting under center for an NFL team.

The team could also address one of their other needs with a pick in the 15-20 range, defensive tackle. They brought in interior lineman Linval Joseph on a two-year deal in free agency, but he’s not the player he once was and they could still use an injection of youth at the position.

South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw, Texas A&M’s Justin Madubuike and TCU’s Ross Blacklock should all be on the board in the middle of the first round.

Moving back just make a lot of sense for a team like LA. They don’t have any glaring needs that could be filled with a top 10 pick, and they could still get an impact player at a position of need later in the first round, plus trading back will give them more picks to play with later in the draft.

Once draft night rolls around, don’t be surprised if the Chargers elect to trade out of their sixth overall spot.
