While the Jacksonville Jaguars do have bigger needs than wide receiver, most notably cornerback, they’ll be in prime position to snag arguably the best wideout entering the draft at their No. 9 selection.
If cornerback Jeff Okudah falls to the Jags, then they’ll likely end up taking him instead, but the chances of him falling that far seem unlikely. CeeDee Lamb, however, will more than likely be available towards the bottom of the top 10 where Jacksonville picks.
Aside from DJ Chark, Jacksonville has a very average receiving corps. Dede Westbrook had a solid 2019 season, but he would benefit from another solid receiver getting added to the bunch.
Lamb would instantly give the Jaguars a legitimate playmaker on the outside, something second year quarterback Gardner Minshew would surely appreciate.
Jacksonville seems to be all in on Minshew as their franchise guy moving forward, which means they’ll likely try to surround him with as many weapons as possible. Lamb would also provide new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden with another toy to draw up plays for in 2020.
Adding Lamb to this offense would suddenly make this Jaguars offensive groups one of the most intriguing units heading into the season. They brought in tight end Tyler Eifert during free agency, who’s still a solid receiving option when healthy. Running back Leonard Fournette also showcased a lot of development as an all-purpose back last season, leading the team in receptions with 76.
Put it all together and the Jaguars are looking like an offense that could put up some points in 2020. But, this offense isn’t complete until they add a legit No. 1 wideout, which is why Lamb is the key here.
Getting the most out of Minshew should be Jacksonville’s number one priority moving forward, and what better way to do that than adding the best wideout in the upcoming draft.
