Littleton would be tougher to replace
Last season, Los Angeles acquired Fowler from the Jacksonville Jaguars in hopes he’d reach his potential with a change of scenery. While Fowler didn’t make an immediate impact, he showed up when it mattered most.
In his first eight games with the Rams, Fowler recorded two sacks, four tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. But then in the playoffs, he would tally 1.5 sacks and would also force an interception on Drew Brees that ended up securing Los Angeles’ spot in the Super Bowl.
Following his first season with the Rams, Fowler had a career year with the team in 2019. The former first-round pick contributed 11.5 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
Despite his production, there’s no doubt that he benefits from playing alongside Aaron Donald. Provided that, Fowler can be replaced a bit easier than Littleton.
As for Littleton, he’s been with the Rams for the past four years as an undrafted free agent out of Washington. Besides being a special-teams standout, Littleton has evolved into one of the best inside linebackers in the NFL.
Over the past two seasons, Littleton has led the team in tackles, totaled 7.5 sacks, and has five interceptions. Not many linebackers are capable of covering an opposing team’s running back. But Littleton is among the shortlist of guys that excel at it.
Considering the current market, Fowler would likely garner $15-20 million in free agency. On the other hand, Littleton could command a similar price tag on the open market. If the Rams are given a choice between the two, Littleton should ultimately be back with the team in 2020.
