1. A Scheme And Team Fit
During Adams’ first two NFL seasons, Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was the Jets’ head coach. Former Jets’ defensive assistants Mike Caldwell and Kacy Rodgers are also now under Bowles in Tampa Bay.
Expanding on the tweet from colleague Field Yates, ESPN’s Ryan Clark spoke of Adams’ desire to reunite with Bowles on Friday.
“Speaking to him, you can actually add another team to Adam Schefter’s list — and that’s the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” said Clark, Friday afternoon on ESPN’s NFL Live. “He said he’d love to be a part of what Todd Bowles is doing there with that defense and he’d love to be a part of winning.”
Tampa Bay’s defense was not as bad as it seemed in 2019, coming in tied for fifth in Football Outsiders DVOA. So what Bowles did worked well. A player like Adams, with scheme familiarity, talent and the desire to work with Bowles again, could take the unit to an even higher level.
