In a recent segment on “Get Up,” ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum stirred up some speculation by suggesting that Saquon Barkley, the star running back for the New York Giants, could find a “perfect” fit with their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, should the Giants opt not to commit to him.

Tannenbaum elaborated on his viewpoint when asked about potential landing spots for Barkley this offseason.

“This one’s easy, it’s the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Pollard was mildly disappointing replacing Zeke Elliott. His production went down by about 25% … When you’re looking at free agency, the first thing you do is say: ‘If we’re going to go outside our building, who can we get in the division help us and hurt our opponent.’ And trust me, the last thing the New York Giants want to see is Saquon Barkley with a star on the side of his helmet. Could you imagine the first time Dallas rolls into town with Saquon as a Cowboy? He would be perfect because he can catch, he can run, I think his pass protection has actually gotten better… I [think] he would improve that position.”

Barkley’s performance in the 2023 season saw him amass 962 rushing yards and six touchdowns despite playing for a struggling Giants team. This followed his career-best season in 2022, during which he rushed for 1,312 yards.

Reports suggest that the Giants are leaning towards not utilizing the franchise tag on Barkley due to concerns surrounding his age, injury history, and the demanding nature of his position.

Should Saquon Barkley become available on the open market, it’s expected that numerous teams will express interest in acquiring his services, provided the price is right.

The Giants need to figure out something quickly with Barkley or he’ll be gone. New York’s offense was already not very good last season, but losing their star running back would take that to an even lower level.
