1 Trade Idea To Send Panthers’ Brian Burns To Seattle Seahawks

Could the Seattle Seahawks swing a trade to land Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns before the Oct. 31 NFL deadline?

Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network has come up with a package that he thinks can make such a deal happen.

Robinson suggests that the Seahawks trade a 2024 first-round draft pick, a 2025 second-rounder and fellow edge rusher Darrell Taylor to the Panthers in exchange for Burns.

He adds that Seattle could be in the market for a pass rusher after losing Uchenna Nwoso to a season-ending pectoral injury, and obviously, Burns would fit that bill.

Burns is probably the best pass rusher that could potentially be available before the end of the month. But why would Carolina move him?

Well, the Panthers were unable to reach a long-term deal with Burns prior to the season. Burns was apparently asking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $26-28 million annually, a price Carolina was unwilling to pay. That means Burns will hit free agency this offseason, and it doesn’t seem like the Panthers will be able to retain him.

Carolina is in rebuilding mode, so it may be best for the club to move Burns now and recoup some substantial value for him rather than letting him walk for nothing in the spring.

Of course, the issue for the Seahawks could be their own ability to re-sign Burns this offseason in the event of a trade.

Seattle is not projected to have much cap space at year’s end, so trading multiple valuable draft assets for Burns may not be a course of action that the Seahawks could comfortably take.

While Seattle is a good team, it hardly resembles a legitimate Super Bowl contender, so it may be better served playing out the rest of the season and continuing to build upon its success in the offseason.

Brian Burns has logged 13 tackles and four sacks this year and is coming off of back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances.
