2 Quarterback Trade Options The Colts Should Consider

With the NFL Trade Deadline nearly here, these are two quarterbacks that the Indianapolis Colts should pursue in a trade.

The Colts suffered their third straight loss in Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints. With Anthony Richardson out for the season, it has been a tough go of late for the Colts. Hopefully, Richardson is the franchise’s future at the position, but a season-ending injury in his rookie season isn’t encouraging.

In Richardson’s place, Gardner Minshew has been the starting quarterback. As a backup, Minshew is pretty solid, as he has totaled 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions. The turnovers are a bit high for Minshew and his 1-3 record this season as a starter isn’t ideal.

With that being said and the trade deadline getting close, there are two options that the Colts could pursue at the quarterback position.

The first option would be Ryan Tannehill from the Tennessee Titans. After a really strong performance by Will Levis, Tannehill’s time as the starter for the Titans might be coming to an end. While Levis might be the future for the Titans, Tannehill has still started and won a lot of games in the NFL.

Tannehill hasn’t had a great season so far with some injuries, but he could be a realistic option for the Colts. It’s hard to say definitely if he would be an upgrade to Minshew, but he would at the very least provide the Colts with a quarterback with a lot of experience, who could be a mentor for Richardson moving forward.

The second option for the Colts would be to make a move for Jameis Winston of the New Orleans Saints. Winston has been on the Saints for the last few years and is considered one of the league’s best backups. It wasn’t too long ago in 2021 that Winston played a good amount for the Saints and totaled 14 passing touchdowns and three interceptions.

With Derek Carr being the quarterback for the Saints and performing well, the Saints might be willing to deal with Winston if the price is right.

For the Colts with Richardson being the future, having a strong backup or capable veteran is going to be important. Both seem like realistic options for the Colts and we will have to see if they look to make a move before the deadline.
