The Washington Football Team suffered through a rough 2021 NFL season and ended up missing the playoffs when everything was said and done. Right off the bat, the franchise was dealt a rough blow when veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with an injury that ended up being season-ending. Now, the team’s future is in question at quite a few different positions, including quarterback, and the Football Team will need to have a good 2022 NFL Draft.
Looking ahead to the upcoming NFL Draft class, there are plenty of players that could be intriguing fits for the Washington Football Team. Whoever they end up taking, they simply need that player to come in and live up to the hype.
With quite a few needs in mind, there are quite a few draft prospects that Washington could take a long look at. It’s hard to narrow it down to just a few candidates for their first-round pick, but we will do our best.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at three early prospects the Football Team should already be targeting in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
3. Matt Corral, Quarterback, Ole Miss
First up, the Washington Football Team should be very interested in adding Matt Corral to the roster. Before his injury that he suffered during the Ole Miss bowl game, Corral was projected by many to be the No. 1 overall pick. There is now a chance that he could slide down to where the Football Team could snag him.
Corral is coming off of a big season with the Rebels, completing 67.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also picked up 614 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
Assuming Corral can come back to 100 percent from this injury, the Football Team should be satisfied to wait for him to recover. He has the ability to be a franchise changer in the NFL and that is exactly what this team needs. If he’s there, Washington should strongly consider taking him.
2. Drake London, Wide Receiver, USC
Secondly, the Washington Football team could take a look at improving the weapons for whoever their quarterback will be. Should they go the route of a trade or free agency for a new quarterback, drafting a wide receiver could make sense. Drake London would make a lot of sense for the Football Team with their first-round pick.
London is coming off of a massive season with the USC Trojans. He racked up 88 receptions for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns. The numbers may not look huge, but they are. Washington would be wise to snag him if he’s there.
Standing in at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, London has the size to be a major problem for opposing defensive backs in the NFL. He could end up forming a dynamic duo with Terry McLaurin moving forward. This is a very intriguing and legitimate option for Washington consider.
1. Kenny Pickett, Quarterback, Pittsburgh
Finally, there is one more player that would be the best possible pick the Washington Football Team could make. Even if Matt Corral is on the board, the Football Team should take Kenny Pickett if he’s available.
Pickett completed 67.2 percent of his pass attempts for 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also scored five touchdowns and picked up 241 yards on the ground. However, as a pure quarterback, Pickett is the best it could get for the Football Team in this draft class.
If they are able to take Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Washington’s future will be set. They will finally have a guy that they can build around to be the future of their franchise under center. Pickett would be the best case scenario for the Football Team in the draft this year.
