3 Players Linked As Possible Trade Targets For Cowboys Before Deadline

The Dallas Cowboys have gotten off to a 4-2 start this season and have looked very solid. But that’s just the thing: they have looked very solid. Not great.

The good news is that the Cowboys still have some time to improve their roster between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

Randy Gurzi of FanSided has listed three potential targets he feels could help take Dallas to the next level: Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson, Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Thayer Munford Jr. and Denver Broncos running back Samaje Perine.

Johnson is the biggest and most significant name on this list.

The Cowboys have been in dire need of a cornerback ever since Trevon Diggs tore his ACL heading into Week 3. Diggs’ injury left a gaping hole in Dallas’ secondary, and his absence has been very clear over the past several weeks.

While Johnson is certainly not on Diggs’ level, he is a solid corner and is still just 24 years old. However, he will be a free agent at the end of the year, and with the Bears having so many needs up and down the roster, they may not possess the financial capacity to retain him.

As a result, some feel that Chicago may be better off trading Johnson now to recoup some value for him before he walks for nothing in the offseason.

Munford is in his second season with the Raiders and would provide the Cowboys with some much-needed offensive line depth, as Dallas has been pestered by injuries in the trenches this season. At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Munford is an imposing presence who could definitely help the Cowboys in some fashion.

Then there is Perine, the 5-foot-10, 236-pound battering ram who could represent a nice change-of-pace back alongside of Tony Pollard. Perine is not an elite rusher by any stretch of the imagination, but he could be of some assistance to Dallas in short-yardage situations.

None of these guys are Pro Bowlers, but you don’t necessarily need superstar talents in order to reach the next level, particularly when you are already a good football team like the Cowboys.
