3 Teams Who Should Pursue A Trade For Packers’ Jordan Love

With the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected quarterback Jordan Love out of Utah State. It was a peculiar move as the Packers traded up to select him despite still having future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers on the roster. This offseason, things could finally come to a head.

The Packers have a difficult decision to make this offseason when it comes to the quarterback position. Do they want to keep Rodgers for at least one more season? Or, after three years, is it time to turn the offense over to Jordan Love?

If the Packers opt to keep Rodgers, Jordan Love will reportedly seek a trade. Where could he end up? Here are three teams who should pursue a trade for the former first-round pick.

3. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot when it comes to their salary cap situation. They have the least cap space available currently in the league, as they are more than $60 million over the cap. Plenty of moves will have to be made to make that number more manageable, which will limit their options at quarterback.

While they would love to land a veteran such as Derek Carr, it may not be in the cards. New Orleans is lacking cap space and some draft capital for years to come from a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Seeking a long-term answer at the quarterback position, the Saints should take a shot on Jordan Love. He could grow alongside budding star, 2022 first-round pick Chris Olave and give them a foundation offensively. If things go poorly, New Orleans could be in the market for top signal callers in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2. Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have shown they aren’t afraid to make trades when it comes to the quarterback position. They have acquired veterans Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan in consecutive offseasons, but neither move panned out.

Set to have a different starting quarterback in Week 1 for the eighth straight season, Indianapolis needs to find a long-term answer at the position. Armed with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, they should be in a position to select one of the top prospects.

In a better position than most of the teams at the top of the draft board roster-wise, the Colts could opt to fill another position and use some of their draft capital to acquire Jordan Love instead.

Indianapolis could address their pass-rushing need with the 4th overall pick and hope things pan out with Love offensively. If not, the Colts would be right back in the same position in 2024 with a top pick to nab a quarterback.

1. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers made it a point to hopefully improve their offensive outlook during their head coach search. Outside of Steve Wilks, who has a defensive background, everyone else had an offensive background that they interviewed.

Ultimately, the team landed on Frank Reich, who was unceremoniously fired by the Colts during the 2022 season. Potentially too far down the draft board to land one of this season’s top prospects, the Panthers should instead opt to use that selection on another need and bring in Jordan Love to be their starter.

Carolina has tried this path the last two seasons with Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, so could the third time be the charm in the Queen City? With the NFC South wide open, the Panthers would likely be better off upgrading the roster elsewhere with the 9th pick and hoping Love brings enough to the table offensively to get them over the hump.
