The Green Bay Packers selected Texas A&M edge rusher Edgerrin Cooper in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, adding a young piece to their stable of pass rushers.

Cooper is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he racked up 84 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, eight sacks, a couple of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

He is prepared to bring that same type of production to the Packers next season.

“It’s everything,” Cooper said, via Jason B. Hirschhorn of The Leap. “Some teams don’t have a second-level linebacker able to track down faster quarterbacks. I feel like that’s one good thing I bring to the table, being able to spy or go rush the passer.”

Cooper arrived at Texas A&M in 2020 and had a very minimal role at first, but in his second season, his role began to grow, as he registered 58 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, a half of a sack and an interception.

The following year, the 22-year-old finished with 61 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a pick, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Obviously, Cooper was not much of a sack-getter until his third season, and after breaking out in 2023, he became a very attractive option to teams in need of a pass rusher.

The Packers amassed a grand total of 45 sacks this past year, which ranked middle of the pack in the NFL. However, with Preston Smith aging, Green Bay certainly could have used a player like Cooper.

We’ll see what Edgerrin Cooper can bring to the table for a Packers club that seems to be on the cusp of contending for a Super Bowl.
