NFL Analyst Reveals Interesting Comparison For Texans’ Kamari Lassiter

The Houston Texans were very busy earlier in the 2024 NFL offseason adding some upgrades to their roster. Their biggest move was acquiring wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills to give star quarterback C.J. Stroud another weapon in the passing game.

The only caveat to the moves Houston made this offseason was they were left without a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Their selection was sent to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2023 NFL Draft so that they could select Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson.

This offseason, their second first-rounder, via the Cleveland Browns, was traded to the Minnesota Vikings. That meant the first time they were on the board was in the second round, No. 42 overall via the Vikings.

With that pick, the Texans selected Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter. Lassiter will fill a major need for Houston, as finding a starter opposite of Derek Stingley Jr. was near the top of their offseason to-do list.

Coming out of Georgia, Lassiter is as NFL-ready as any cornerback in this year’s draft class. He does have some flaws, as he didn’t test too well in the pre-draft process, but he brings physicality and scrappiness that will benefit him at the next level.

You will never have to worry about the level of effort from Lassiter who plays hard whenever he is on the field. He isn’t afraid of mixing it up as a run defender, which will endear him to the Texans’ coaching staff.

Interestingly enough, the player comp that he drew from NFL.com was a former Georgia standout; Deandre Baker. Baker was a first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft but his professional career didn’t pan out as well as anyone hoped.

Baker was released by the Giants after some off-field issues arose and was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. He was with Kansas City in 2020 and 2021 but has not played in the NFL since.
