The Philadelphia Eagles selected University of Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night, marking the second straight corner they chose.

In the first round on Thursday evening, the Eagles took Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

DeJean seems thrilled to join Philadelphia and has already made his first comments on his new venture.

“It’s amazing. This is a place I wanted to be,” DeJean said, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I had a great visit there during the draft process. Great coaches there, great team, great organization. This is something you dream of as a little kid. I’m excited to bring my talents there.”

Philly finished 31st in the NFL in passing defense this past year, so it obviously needed to address its secondary during the offseason. It was able to sign C.J. Gardner-Johnson in free agency, but it didn’t achieve much else until the draft these last couple of nights.

The Eagles currently have Darius Slay and James Bradberry at cornerback, but Slay is aging, and Bradberry had a subpar campaign in 2023.

DeJean is coming off of a season in which he registered 41 tackles, a couple of interceptions and five passes defended.

The 21-year-old arrived at Iowa in 2021 but had a very minimal role in his freshman year. The following year, DeJean broke out, racking up 75 tackles, three tackles for loss, five picks, eight passes defended and three defensive touchdowns.

We’ll get to see what Cooper DeJean can do on the NFL level come September.
