The New York Giants selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday night in a move that was universally lauded.

While some felt there was a chance the Giants could take a quarterback, New York was unable to trade up for any of the very top prospects, and it decided not to reach for Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.

Instead, the Giants made the safe play and went with Nabers, who was the second-rated receiver in the draft class behind Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. Some even feel he is the best wide out of the group.

During his first press conference after being selected by New York, Nabers made a bold statement that should put opposing defenses on notice.

Nabers was asked about how he gets separation, and he had this to say.

“It’s just second nature,” Nabers said, via SNY. “Me being an athlete, me being a dog, always going out there and being that person the quarterback can rely on. … When the ball’s in the quarterback’s hands, Malik’s gonna be open.”

The 20-year-old is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Nabers arrived at LSU in 2021 and had a decent debut season, catching 28 passes for 417 yards and four scores. He then broke out during his sophomore year, snaring 72 balls for 1,017 yards while reaching the end zone three times.

The Giants have not had a true No. 1 receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018, so they are obviously hoping Malik Nabers can step in and fill that void.
