In the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, the Denver Broncos made a significant move by selecting Bo Nix from Oregon as the No. 12 overall pick, adding him to their quarterback roster.

Despite already acquiring former New York Jets first-round quarterback Zach Wilson, Broncos head coach Sean Payton believed they needed another competitive option.

The decision to draft Nix was based on their assessment of his talent, considering him a valuable addition to the team. Nix himself conveyed his excitement to Broncos fans after being selected, signaling a promising start to his journey with the team.

“I am so excited to be a Bronco. This is such a dream come true. From Day 1, Denver was my No. 1.”

Now, within the Broncos’ quarterback lineup, Nix joins Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. As they head into training camp and the upcoming season, a genuine competition is anticipated, with Stidham, at 27 years old, boasting the most experience among the trio, while Wilson brings recent starting experience to the table.

Looking ahead, Nix is viewed as the long-term solution for the Broncos’ quarterback position.

Drawing comparisons to the legendary Drew Brees, Nix showcased his prowess as a starting quarterback during his collegiate career, spanning five years with both the Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks. His exposure to a variety of challenges in college football, from tough SEC defenses to high-octane Pac-12 offenses, underscores his readiness for the NFL stage.

Given his background and skill set, Nix is expected to initially observe and learn from the sidelines before assuming the starting role. With Sean Payton’s endorsement, Broncos fans have reason to be optimistic about Nix’s potential impact on the team.

It’s worth noting that just as Russell Wilson wasn’t initially perceived as a standout prospect, Bo Nix has the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong and carve out a successful career with the Denver Broncos.
