49ers Showing Interest In Intriguing Free Agent Wide Receiver

The San Francisco 49ers have one of the deepest, most talented groups of skill-position players in the NFL. After acquiring running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers ahead of last season’s trade deadline, you would be hard-pressed to find a team with more talent on offense.

McCaffrey, an All-Pro running back, was joining fellow All-Pros in wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle. The complementary players behind them on the depth chart would be starters on a major of teams around the league as well.

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is a versatile weapon that moves around the formation offensively. Running back Elijah Mitchell has been productive whenever he steps on the field, but he struggles to stay healthy. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is an excellent No. 2 option and would likely be a No. 1 on other teams. Jauan Jennings is a very good No. 3 wide receiver as well.

Despite all of that talent, it certainly doesn’t hurt to keep a tab on players in free agency that could help in a pinch. That is why the 49ers are doing their due diligence and keeping their free agent list updated.

On Monday, they hosted wide receiver Corey Coleman for a visit and work out according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Coleman was a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Baylor.

He was selected No. 15 overall and had some high expectations upon entering the NFL. There was optimism that he would help elevate the Browns’ offense after a dominant two-year run at Baylor in which he played at a star level.

The 49ers are the first team linked to Coleman to even have him in for a workout since he was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last season. He was signed in March but waived during cutdowns before the regular season.

The Chiefs signed him to the practice squad on September 13th, but he didn’t last too long there, being released on October 4th. Coleman hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2018 season when he was a member of the New York Giants.
