The Philadelphia Eagles have gotten off to a 5-1 start, but it is pretty clear that problems do exist for the defending NFC champions.
Some of those issues were on display in Week 6, when the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season in a 20-14 defeat at the hands of the New York jets.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions in the loss, already giving him more picks this season (seven) than he had in all of 2022 (six).
Ed Kracz of Fan Nation has put together five trade ideas for Philadelphia between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, naming Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn, Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker, Jets wide receiver Mecole Hardman and Las Vegas Raiders wide out Hunter Renfrow as potential targets.
You’ll notice that three of the five players Kracz listed are defensive backs, which makes sense given that Philly ranks 20th in the NFL in passing defense and clearly has a rather big hole at safety.
Baker is the best potential target of all of the guys Kracz listed, as he has made four straight Pro Bowls and is one of the game’s best safeties when healthy. Right now, the Cardinals star is on the injured reserve list due to a hamstring issue, but he is expected back later in the season.
Kracz suggests that the Eagles trade offensive lineman Jack Driscoll and a fourth-round draft pick to Arizona in exchange for Baker.
I’m not exactly sure the Cardinals would go for that deal, as Driscoll has fallen out of Philadelphia’s rotation entirely and a fourth-rounder would probably not be enough to sweeten the pot for a player of Baker’s caliber. This is especially taking into consideration that Baker has an $18 million club option for 2024 that the Eagles would almost certainly exercise if they acquire him, so it’s not like he would just be a rental.
Still, Baker certainly makes sense for Philadelphia, and one can certainly see the Eagles targeting him before the end of the month.
