Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth is entering the final year of his deal, but if he has it his way, he will spend the remainder of his career with the Steelers.

During a recent appearance on the Around The 412 podcast, Freiermuth discussed his contract status and how much he hopes to stay in Pittsburgh.

“I want to be in Pittsburgh for the rest of my career,” Freiermuth said. “Hopefully it shakes out that way. I want to continue to play for Pittsburgh because it reminds me of where I’m from and how I was raised. So, hopefully it shakes out the way that I want it to in the next coming year or whenever that may be.”

Freiermuth, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The 25-year-old had a solid rookie campaign, playing in 16 games and catching 60 passes for 497 yards and seven touchdowns. He then showed some progression during his sophomore season, hauling in 63 receptions for 732 yards and a couple of scores.

This past year, injuries limited Freiermuth to 12 games and he was a bit disappointing, finishing with 32 catches for 308 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

In Freiermuth’s defense, Pittsburgh didn’t exactly have an ideal quarterback situation in 2023, as the Steelers shuffled through three signal-callers throughout the season.

Now, heading into 2024, Pittsburgh has revamped its quarterback room, signing Russell Wilson and swinging a trade for Justin Fields.

Hopefully for Freiermuth, he can develop a connection with one of the two quarterbacks (whoever plays) and parlay that into a new deal with the Steelers.

Pittsburgh went 10-7 and fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs this past season.
