The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy this offseason, signing quarterback Russell Wilson and making a trade for fellow signal-caller Justin Fields. However, they still need to add some pieces.
It specifically seems like the Steelers are looking to add a linebacker.
Pittsburgh already bolstered its linebacking corps by poaching Patrick Queen from the Baltimore Ravens, inking the Pro Bowler to a three-year deal.
However, the Steelers could use some more help at the position, and Aaron Wilson of KPRC recently recently that the team hosted former Washington Commanders linebacker Khaleke Hudson for a visit.
Hudson played in every game this past season, logging 74 tackles and a sack.
Pittsburgh also owns the 20th overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, but Tommy Jaggi of Still Curtain notes that general manager Omar Khan may feel less inclined to roll with a linebacker in the first round if the team is able to land Hudson.
Of course, that may be stretching it a bit.
It seems hard to imagine that the Steelers would avoid using a first-round selection on a linebacker just because they signed a rather uninspiring player in Hudson, who Jaggi mentions could be of help to the club on special teams.
That being said, Pittsburgh probably won’t be pursuing a linebacker at No. 20, anyway.
The Steelers have pretty obvious needs in other areas, such as their offensive line and their receiving corps. Pittsburgh traded away wide receiver Diontae Johnson last month, leaving very little depth behind George Pickens at the position. The Steelers have been rumored to be interested in San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk, which shows they do plan on addressing the weakness.
Plus, you would think Pittsburgh would want to do whatever it can to make life as easy as possible for Wilson entering 2024, which would mean providing him with adequate protection and a variety of weapons in the aerial attack.
We’ll see what the Steelers decide to do in the coming weeks.
