Aaron Rodgers seems to want Clay Matthews to return to the Packers

The Green Bay Packers have had a quiet offseason so far, but many think it is just the calm before the storm. Brian Gutekunst has been aggressive in free agency since taking over the lead man in Green Bay and the team has major needs that still need to be addressed.

However, now, there is a storyline and rumor floating around about the Packers bringing back one of their longtime stars. Of course, that star is Clay Matthews, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.

Matthews would be an inside linebacker if he were to return to Green Bay. The team already signed Christian Kirksey, so Matthews and Kirksey would patrol the middle of the defense. In the past, Matthews has shown a lot of promise as an inside linebacker.

Aaron Rodgers seems to want the Packers to bring Matthews back. He liked a tweet about Matthews potentially returning to Green Bay.

Matthews put up decent numbers in his lone season with the Rams. He played in 13 games and ended up recording 37 total tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and three defended passes. Obviously, he still has some good football left in him to offer a team like the Packers.

At 33 years old, a return to the Packers would make a lot of sense for Matthews. Green Bay has been home for the majority of his career. They are also close to competing for another Super Bowl run.

Expect to hear more rumors about the Packers in the near future. Matthews may not end up back in Green Bay, but is something to keep an eye on.
