Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have had a very interesting offseason thus far, especially with the team’s decision to trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.
After finishing the 2019 NFL season with a 13-3 record and making it to the NFC Championship Game, many thought the Packers would try to load up with talent around Rodgers. Brian Gutekunst obviously had a different idea.
Up to this point, the fans hadn’t heard directly from Rodgers about his thoughts on the Love pick. In a press conference on Friday, Rodgers finally opened up about his thoughts on the selection.
Now that we have heard from Rodgers about the pick, what should Packers fans take away from the answer?
Quite simply, it is clear that Rodgers is not happy that the Packers took a quarterback instead of finding him more help. However, he is going to work with Love and also stated that he has had great conversations with the young quarterback. Rodgers also said he has no reason to be upset with Love.
Rodgers will likely force the Packers to make some tough decisions in the future. He reiterated his desire to play into his 40’s, which would make Green Bay move on from him at some point to play Love. It seems like another Brett Favre situation could be on the horizon in the future.
All of that being said, the Packers aren’t likely to have any drama between the two quarterbacks. Rodgers is excited to get to work and is planning on continuing to play at an elite level. His goal is still to bring another Lombardi Trophy home to Green Bay.
Expect to see Rodgers and the Packers put together another successful season in 2020. There are some tough decisions ahead, but for now the future is looking bright.
