Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray made his return to the field from a torn ACL two weeks ago, going 1-1 over his first couple of games.
Murray spoke about how he felt after his comeback earlier this week, saying he feels like he is making progress.
“Do I feel like I’m in a groove?” Murray said, via Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ team website website. “Getting there. … I hope next season is different, a more normal offseason. That is something I look forward to. But right now I’m in the situation where I have to deal with it and somehow get better every week.”
Murray suffered his injury 11 games into last season and had been sidelined ever since, so growing pains were expected for the two-time Pro Bowler.
Through his first couple of contests in 2023, Murray has completed 39 of his 62 passes for 463 yards, a touchdown and a pair of interceptions. He has also carried the ball 13 times for 84 yards and two scores.
While the 26-year-old was upset with his team’s Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans, he understands that this will be a process.
“I planned on being undefeated in the sense of (after) two weeks. Obviously that didn’t happen,” Murray said. “It’s difficult, because I didn’t start the season and it isn’t the outcome that I feel if I would’ve been playing we would have. Those types of things are out of my control. How can I get better? How can I move forward? That’s what I have to focus on.”
Kyler Murray, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was selected by the Cardinals with the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He made back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2020 and 2021 and signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension with Arizona during the summer of 2022.
The Cardinals are 2-9 and will take on the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday.
