Falcons Urged To Pull Off Major Quarterback Trade

It’s becoming more and more apparent that the Atlanta Falcons are in need of a quarterback.

During the Falcons’ loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon, Desmond Ridder went just 28-for-47 with 307 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, one of which came in the end zone with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

On the season overall, Ridder has thrown for 1,380 yards, six touchdowns and six picks while completing 64 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 81.3.

A third-round draft pick out of the University of Cincinnati, not many people believed that Ridder was Atlanta’s long-term answer under center, so this does not come as much of a surprise.

Following Ridder’s most recent subpar performance, Bleacher Report’s NFL staff feels that the Falcons should make a push for Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

While Tannehill himself has not exactly played great football this season, totaling two touchdowns and six interceptions thus far, Bleacher Report notes that Tannehill’s two best seasons in Tennessee came with Arthur Smith at offensive coordinator. Well, Smith is now the Falcons’ head coach, so perhaps he can help Tannehill rediscover some of his old magic.

Tannehill will be a free agent at the end of the season, and with the Titans appearing headed for an inevitable rebuild, it seems likely that the 35-year-old will not be taking snaps for the club in 2024.

Taking that into consideration, Tennessee, which fell to 2-4 with its Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, could opt to move Tannehill ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to recoup some value for him.

The Falcons may be 3-3, but they are still very much alive in the weak NFC South, so a positive change at signal-caller could make all of the difference.

That being said, it’s fair to question whether Tannehill is actually an upgrade over Ridder at this stage of his career.
