There are some who feel that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is merely a product of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system, but Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton does not agree.

When asked about Purdy ahead of the Ravens’ Christmas Day matchup with the 49ers, Hamilton provided Purdy with some high praise.

“The word around the league is he’s a system quarterback, and I just think that’s not true from what I’ve seen,” Hamilton said, via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. “He’s making every throw that you could make as a quarterback on time and on target. He makes good decisions, he’s mobile and he’s got a great cast around him at the same time. But yeah, he’s really good, and props to him. … He’s in the MVP race. It’s gonna be a good challenge, but I’m excited to do it.”

Purdy is now in his second season and leads the NFL with 29 passing touchdowns this year. He has also thrown for 3,795 yards and just seven interceptions while completing 69.8 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 119.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by the 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He began his rookie campaign as San Francisco’s third-string quarterback but was pressed into starting duty following season-ending injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. Purdy ended up going 5-0 in his regular-season starts and totaled 13 touchdowns and four picks in an impressive showing.

While there is no doubt that Brock Purdy has a terrific supporting cast, one cannot deny how well he has played since taking over under center last season.

The Niners and Ravens both own the best records in their respective conferences at 11-3. The 49ers are riding a six-game winning streak while Baltimore has won four contests in a row.
