Jayden Daniels is one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class, and the New York Giants seem pretty enamored with him.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan says that the Giants are considering Daniels if things fall that way.
“When it comes to this year’s quarterbacks, Daniels is a name to keep an eye on, if he’s not among the top two picks with Williams,” Raanan wrote. “He is a player who is well-regarded within the organization and that multiple sources with connections to [Joe] Schoen and [Brian] Daboll believe would be an ideal fit in their offense. There is also interest in [J.J.] McCarthy, especially if he is available at No. 6.”
New York is one of the more intriguing teams entering the draft, as there is some debate as to what the Giants will actually do with the sixth pick.
Some feel that Big Blue will end up taking a quarterback, but others think that the Giants will take a wide receiver or an offensive lineman and then select a signal-caller in the later rounds.
Daniels is largely viewed as one of the top three quarterback prospects along with Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, so the chances of him falling all the way to No. 6 seem rather slim.
The Chicago Bears are expected to take Williams at No. 1, and the general consensus is that the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots will select some combination of Maye and Daniels at Nos. 2 and 3.
Of course, New York could always trade up, but that may end up being an exercise in futility if the Commanders and Patriots are dead set at taking a signal-caller at their respective draft slots.
Daniels is coming off of a fantastic campaign at LSU in which he threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 72.2 percent of his passes. He also racked up 1,134 yards and 10 scores on the ground and won the Heisman Trophy.
The Giants currently have Daniel Jones under center, and it’s looking more and more like New York is preparing to move on from him.
If the Giants somehow get the opportunity to select Jayden Daniels, they will almost certainly take him.
