Could the Baltimore Ravens try and bolster their running game by attempting to swing a deal for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara?
The Ravens came up short in the playoffs yet again this winter, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
While it was the furthest Baltimore had made it in the Lamar Jackson era, the Ravens still fell short of their goal of winning a Super Bowl.
One thing became very clear during Baltimore’s loss to the Chiefs: it needs more offensive weapons.
Kamara could very well be available this offseason, as the Saints are in salary cap hell and would love to get out from under the remainder of his contract (his deal expires at the end of 2025).
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggests that the Ravens trade a seventh-round draft pick to New Orleans in exchange for the versatile halfback.
That may not sound like appropriate value on the surface, but again, the Saints may just view dumping his contract as a positive in and of itself, and Kamara was not great in 2023 and has been sliding the last several years.
Why, then, would Baltimore be interested in him?
Well, a seventh-round pick is no big deal, and the Ravens absolutely need to add some pieces in order to finally get over the hump. Taking a swing on Kamara may not be the worst idea in the world.
Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what Kamara needs, and he may flourish in an offense in which Jackson commands so much attention from opposing defenses.
Kamara is a dual threat out of the backfield, so he would represent a great option for Jackson on checkdowns while also bringing the potential of improving the Ravens’ ground game.
We’ll see if Baltimore checks in on Alvin Kamara in the coming weeks.
