Ravens Urged To Make Major Trade For Vikings’ Danielle Hunter

Could the Baltimore Ravens swing a deal for Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline? Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated would love to see it.

Orr suggests that the Ravens should send a 2024 second-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder to the Vikings in exchange for Hunter, who is set to be a free agent at season’s end.

Baltimore actually ranks No. 1 in the league with 29 sacks and boasts the second-ranked defense in football, but it never hurts to stack more talent.

Here is the issue, though: Minnesota may no longer wish to sell.

Several weeks ago, the Vikings looked like surefire sellers going into the trade deadline, as they were 0-3 and appeared to be running on fumes. However, since then, Minnesota has won three of its last four games to get to 3-4 and insert itself right into the thick of the NFC playoff picture.

As a result, the Vikings may not be too keen on moving their best pass rusher, so the idea of the Ravens being able to acquire Hunter may be more rooted in fantasy than reality (and to be fair, Orr was merely referring to the trade as one he would personally love to see).

It certainly would be something else. That’s for sure.

Hunter has already logged 34 tackles and a league-leading nine sacks through his first seven games, adding a forced fumble and a couple of passes defended on top of that.

The 28-year-old is now in his ninth NFL season, all of them coming in Minnesota. He has made three trips to the Pro Bowl and did so as recently as 2022 when he totaled 65 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

Hunter’s two best seasons came in 2018 and 2019, when he racked up 14.5 sacks in back-to-back years.

Imagine if the Ravens, who are 5-2, added someone like Danielle Hunter to their defense? It’s a scary thought.
