There may not be a team in the NFL that is having as disappointing of a season as the Buffalo Bills. Coming into the season, they were among the teams listed as favorites to win the Super Bowl. But, at this point, they will be lucky to qualify for the postseason.

After losing a heartbreaking game to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12, the Bills record dropped to 6-6. Heading into their bye, the team will have a chance to self-reflect and figure out a way to get things back on track.

The schedule makers did them no favors. After the bye, they will travel to take on the Kansas City Chiefs before hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Currently, in 10th place in the AFC, every game from here on out is essentially a must-win for the Bills.

NFL News & Rumors: Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, Buffalo Bills Updates

WIll they be able to rise to the challenge? Against the Eagles, they showed they could compete with the upper-echelon teams in the NFL; they just need to clean up a few areas to put those teams away.

Most of what needs to be cleaned up is self-inflicted. Cutting down on turnovers is something quarterback Josh Allen needs to work on. But, there are plenty of people in Bills Mafia who believe that the issues stem from head coach Sean McDermott.

There are more than a few fans who would like to see McDermott fired for the team’s performance this season. Alas, those people should not hold their breath. According to sources who spoke to Tim Graham of The Athletic, that isn’t something ownership is looking to do.

“Bills’ owner Terry Pegula has “neither the desire nor plans to make a coaching change.” After speaking to several insiders with “intimate knowledge” of the coach’s relationship with Pegula, the answer was clear.

“Asked if there was any chance Pegula would fire McDermott, two of the sources replied ‘Zero,’” Graham reported.

“The other two sources said they would be shocked if Pegula made such a move.” McDermott’s .624 win percentage as the Bills head coach is the highest in franchise history. While this season may be a bust, Pegula remains confident in McDermott.” (H/T Heavy)

NFL News & Rumors: Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, Buffalo Bills Updates

McDermott’s track record as head coach of the Bills speaks for itself. He is the most successful in franchise history in terms of winning percentage as the team is competitive year in and year out under his watch.

While the Bills have yet to win the big one with McDermott on the sidelines, ownership remains confident he can get the job done. Fans always look to the head coach to shake things up, but who would be able to replace McDermott and get more out of this team?

If a coaching change is going to happen, expect it to come on the offensive side of the ball. Buffalo has felt the loss of Brian Daboll, who is now head coach of the New York Giants, as Allen hasn’t looked quite the same since he departed in the 2022 offseason.
