The Cleveland Browns were locked in a competitive game against the Denver Broncos in Week 12 for the majority of their matchup. That was until Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson suffered a head injury that knocked him out of the game.
In place of Thompson-Robinson, the Browns turned to P.J. Walker. Walker has struggled this season when his number has been called and that continued on Sunday against the Broncos. Cleveland eventually went on to lose the game 29-12, dropping their record to 7-4 on the season.
Rarely have players diagnosed with a concussion or head injury been cleared in time to play the following week. That leaves the Browns in a quarterback quandary, as Thompson-Robinson is up against the clock to get cleared and be able to play.
It is a disappointing turn of events for the rookie should he not be on the field. The Browns are set to face off against the Los Angeles Rams this upcoming weekend, which would have been a homecoming for Thompson-Robinson, who played collegiately at UCLA.
NFL News & Rumors: Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland Browns Updates
If he is unable to go, many people are presuming that the Browns will turn to veteran Joe Flacco as their starter. Cleveland signed the 38-year-old to their practice squad last week and he seems to be in line to replace Thompson-Robinson ahead of Walker.
However, that isn’t something Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is ready to commit to. When asked about potentially starting Flacco over Walker, he offered a simple, two-word answer. “We’ll see,” said the Cleveland head coach.
Tom Withers of the Associated Press shared some insight on the situation, saying the Browns are poised to start their fourth different quarterback of the season. The biggest difference, however, is that Flacco has a Super Bowl ring on his resume.
It will be interesting to see what the Browns decide to do. The Rams are in the thick of the playoff race in the NFC and will be looking to climb back to the .500 mark themselves. Does Flacco give them a better chance of picking up a road win than Walker?
That is what Stefanski and his staff have to figure out this week if Thompson-Robinson is unable to go. His clearance would make all of this a moot point as the rookie fifth-round pick is their guy as long as he is healthy.
