Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has been one of the most consistent performers in the NFL since he entered the league as a second-round pick in 2018. He has been the centerpiece of the Browns’ offensive game plan, earning a Pro Bowl spot in four straight seasons.

When talking about who the best running backs in the NFL are, Nick Chubb is sometimes left off the list. Part of the reason could be his lack of participation in the passing game as Cleveland has used Kareem Hunt in that role for years. With Hunt no longer on the roster, could we see Chubb involved more in the passing game?

That is something Fantasy Football managers would love, but decision-makers around the league certainly don’t need to see more from him. Over at ESPN, Jeremy Fowler put together running back power rankings based on the opinions of executives, coaches and scouts around the league.

Coming in at No. 1 in those rankings is none other than Nick Chubb, who makes a jump up from the No. 3 spot in 2022. The lowest that anyone had him ranked this year was sixth, which speaks volumes about how highly regarded he is around the NFL.

“I’ve always loved his game,” an AFC executive said. “He can carry the load, strong, has vision, great feet, not outstanding in the passing game but can do it. Just a damn good player. Not a make-you-miss guy but has power and instincts.”

Nick Chubb is averaging 5.2 yards per rush since entering the NFL, which is the best mark since 2018. Among players with at least 1,000 rushing attempts, his 5.2 yards per carry is the second-best ever behind Jamaal Charles, who averaged 5.4 yards per attempt.

While Nick Chubb isn’t considered the most athletic or elusive running back in the league, he gets the job done week in and week out. In 2022, he led the NFL in explosive rushing plays with 23. Explosive rushing plays are any run that gains 10+ yards.

Last season, he finished with a career-high 1,525 rushing yards, carrying the Browns’ offense despite teams knowing exactly what was coming. His 12 rushing touchdowns tied his career high and he earned a spot on the All-Pro Second Team as well.
