Depth At The Tight End Position
The Bucs had a solid pair of tight ends in O.J Howard and Cameron Brate, and then just added one of the best in the business in Rob Gronkowski.
When Tom Brady signed with the Bucs, it didn’t come as a total shock that Gronkowski announced that he would be coming out of retirement. Gronk was one of the best receiving tight ends in NFL history, but injuries have lingered throughout his career. He most likely won’t be the same Gronkowksi as he was in New England, but he still has the ability to be a monster on the field.
Howard hasn’t exactly been all that the Bucs had hoped for from him. He has topped out at 34 receptions in each of the last two seasons and had a disappointing single touchdown in 2019. Brate has seen his targets slowly dwindle over the years, and he only saw action in six games last season bevause of injuries, but he provides a big target in the red zone.
Again, Gronkowski won’t be the same being a year removed from football. But the trio of Gronk, Howard and Brate make solid options for Brady at the tight end position.
