The Buffalo Bills have a new offensive coordinator, but the good news is that quarterback Josh Allen already knew who he was ahead of time.
After firing Ken Dorsey from his post as offensive play-caller, the Bills promoted quarterbacks coach Joe Brady to the role. Allen is obviously very familiar with him.
General manager Brandon Beane spoke about the convenience of the pairing this week.
“It wasn’t like they had to get to know each other and it’s so important for that play-caller to have the feel of what fits this quarterback, what fits this offense,” Beane said, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “So it didn’t take them long to get on the same page and I thought they really did a nice job and it’ll be fun to watch.”
Allen is coming off of an up-and-down 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,306 yards, 29 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 92.2. He also rushed for 524 yards and 15 scores.
Turnovers were obviously a problem for Allen, and even though Buffalo posted the fourth-ranked offense in the NFL this past season, something did not quite feel right.
That was why the Bills canned Dorsey and decided to roll with Brady.
“I know Josh and Joe had conversations after the season about where we want to take the offense, things that we want to keep and things that we want to tweak. And so those are being worked on now,” added Beane. “I know Joe will check in with Josh here and there, but always looking forward to seeing how our offense will evolve and I know Joe’s excited about it as well.”
Allen is one of the most dynamic players in football, but it has not resulted in a whole lot of playoff success in Buffalo.
The Bills have made the postseason five years in a row, but they have failed to make it to the Super Bowl and have only advanced to the AFC Championship Game once during that span.
Buffalo fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round in January.
