New York Jets Urged To Sign Former All-Pro Pass Rusher

After being snubbed by Jadeveon Clowney, the New York Jets are still in need of a pass rusher heading into the 2024 season.

There aren’t many options remaining on the free-agent market, but Justin Fried of The Jets Press has mentioned a name that does stand out: Calais Campbell.

Campbell spent the 2023 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, and while he did not post the Pro Bowl-caliber numbers he he did earlier in his career, he was able to log a solid 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

After losing leading sack-getter Bryce Huff in free agency, the Jets could certainly stand to add another player to their defensive front.

Huff was New York’s only player to register double-digit sacks this past season, so it would absolutely behoove the Jets to replace that production going into 2024.

Campbell may not have another double-digit sack campaign left in him, but he would, at the very least, help fill the void left by Huff.

The 37-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Campbell spent the first nine years of his career with the Cardinals, making a couple of trips to the Pro Bowl. However, he did not truly break out until joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017, when he racked up 67 tackles and 14.5 sacks en route to earning a First-Team All-Pro selection and finishing second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

The Denver native spent three years with the Jaguars before linking up with the Baltimore Ravens for three seasons.

Overall, Campbell has made six Pro Bowl appearances.

We’ll see if the Jets make a move on Campbell in the coming weeks.
