The Buffalo Bills signed running back Leonard Fournette to their practice squad at the end of October, but the veteran has yet to see the field with the club.

Fournette thinks he is helping the Bills with what he has been contributing in practice and adds that he is “just trying to make the best of” his rather limited role thus far.

“I’m comfortable, up to speed,” Fournette said, via Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News. “I’m ready, man. Just waiting on my opportunity. Of course, my first time really being in this position, so you know, I have my days. I think it’s humbling me, testing me, my faith and everything, but I’m getting better.”

Fournette is currently behind James Cook, Latavius Murray and Ty Johnson on Buffalo’s depth chart. The team initially signed Fournette for some extra depth following an injury to fellow halfback Damien Harris, but the Bills haven’t dug deep enough to use Fournette just yet.

Fournette last saw meaningful NFL action last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he played in 16 games and rushed for 668 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 3.5 yards per carry. He also hauled in 73 receptions for 523 yards and three scores.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fourth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He racked up 1,040 yards while reaching the end zone nine times on the ground during his rookie campaign, logging 3.9 yards per attempt. He ended up spending the first three years of his career with the Jaguars, with his best season coming in 2019 when he registered 1,152 yards and three touchdowns while recording 4.3 yards per tote. Additionally, he caught 76 passes for 522 yards.

Leonard Fournette then spent three seasons with the Buccaneers, helping the club win a Super Bowl title during the 2020-21 campaign.

The Bills are 6-6 and will take on the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday.
