Right now, many seem to feel the truly elite teams in the AFC are the Miami Dolphins and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, both of whom are 5-1. The Buffalo Bills were expected to be in that category, but despite a 4-2 record, it just doesn’t feel they’re quite there, at least not yet.
They could use some help on their front seven, especially at linebacker, and another legitimate threat at wide receiver would also be welcome. Wideout Stefon Diggs is on fire with 620 yards and five touchdowns through six games, but only one other player — Gabriel Davis — has as many as 150 receiving yards on the season.
This is why Jarrett Bailey of USA Today Sports Media Group suggests wideout Hunter Renfrow of the Las Vegas Raiders could be a nice trade target for Buffalo. Not only would he give it another playmaking threat, but as Bailey explains, he could take some pressure specifically off Diggs.
“The Bills have missed having Cole Beasley as their slot guy who can eat in the underneath game,” wrote Renfrow. “They haven’t exactly used Dalton Kincaid as that guy yet, and while Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty are good depth pieces, they aren’t every-down slot receivers. Renfrow is one of the finest route runners in the game. If teams have to worry about him and Stefon Diggs, that will make this offense more dangerous than it already is.”
Two seasons ago, Renfrow looked like an emerging stud with 1,038 receiving yards, nine touchdowns and a Pro Bowl nod for a Raiders team that made the playoffs on the last night of the regular season, literally at the last minute with a tight overtime win over the Los Angeles Chargers. But he had just 36 catches for 330 yards in 2022, and so far this year, he’s at a paltry six receptions and 59 yards.
His snap count has dropped precipitously this season, and thus perhaps Las Vegas could be convinced to let go of him for the right price.
There is plenty of firepower throughout the AFC, and in particular, the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and even the Jacksonville Jaguars have magnificent wideout tandems. The Bills could use a boost offensively in their passing game in order to ensure they will have a legitimate shot at the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
