Heading into the 2024 offseason, there are a few areas of need on the roster of the Buffalo Bills. They need to replenish some of their depth on the defensive side of the ball and figure out what to do with edge rusher Von Miller, who may be starting to show his age after an unproductive season.
Offensively, the team has to do something to upgrade its skill position groups around quarterback Josh Allen. Stefon Diggs was once again their only reliable wide receiver, but even he experienced a massive drop-off in production in the second half of the season.
While the team was able to find success despite their star not playing up to his normal level, changes are needed. With Gabe Davis entering free agency, the need for a wide receiver is only going to grow.
NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Stefon Diggs, Brian Thomas Jr., 2024 NFL Draft, Buffalo Bills Updates
While general manager Brandon Beane is confident that Diggs can still be their No. 1 guy, it wouldn’t hurt the Bills to have a contingency plan in place. Signing someone who can start off as the No. 2 option but ease into the No. 1 role over time would make some sense.
But, if the Bills aren’t going to make a splash in free agency, they could use the 2024 NFL Draft to address the need. This year’s wide receiver class is deep and talented, presenting opportunities for Buffalo to add some pass-catching talent.
That is exactly what Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News believes they will do. In a recent mock draft, Iyer believes the Bills will select LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. with the No. 28 overall pick.
“The Bills have two good key young targets for Josh Allen in Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid, but Gabe Davis is a pending free agent and Stefon Diggs is showing signs of decline at 30,” Iyer wrote. “Thomas would give Allen the classic big-bodied No. 1 with his hands, strength, physicality and route-running prowess.”
NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Stefon Diggs, Brian Thomas Jr., 2024 NFL Draft, Buffalo Bills Updates
Standing 6’4” and weighing 205 pounds, Thomas has the look of a true No. 1 receiver in the NFL. His downfield prowess is something that would play well in Buffalo, as Allen has one of the strongest arms in the league.
Thomas played second fiddle to Malik Nabers at LSU this past season, but he has all of the tools to become a No. 1 option in the NFL. Landing with a team such as the Bills would allow him to ease into such a role behind an established staff in Diggs before eventually taking over as Allen’s go-to weapon.
