The Los Angeles Chargers made a huge move this offseason, hiring Jim Harbaugh away from his alma mater at Michigan to become their new head coach. Harbaugh has flirted with coming back to the NFL for a few years and this offseason, it became a reality.

He will be tasked with turning around what has been one of the most disappointing franchises in the last few years. Luck has seemingly always been against the Chargers, who have put together some very talented rosters but never had it translate to victories on the field.

They are hopeful that the addition of Harbaugh as head coach will change those fortunes. He represents a sizable upgrade over the person he is replacing, Brandon Staley, who looked in over his head at times as head coach.

Hiring Harbaugh is a move a lot of players on the team are excited about. One of those players is star defensive end Joey Bosa. Bosa revealed that he spoke to Harbaugh after it was announced that he was hired and came away feeling great about the situation.

“We sat down and probably talked for 30 minutes, an hour a couple of weeks ago,” Bosa said, per The New York Post’s Jared Schwartz. “Great first impressions. … I have a lot of confidence in him and the staff that he’s bringing around him.

“I think he seems like a really genuine guy, which you don’t find that a lot in coaches all the time. He’s interesting. He loves football more than anything. I think all he wants to do is win. The way he talked about his feelings toward this job and toward the future was pretty exciting.”

Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, hasn’t had the kind of success he had hoped for. Injuries have played a part in keeping him off the field for large chunks of the last two seasons and the team has underperformed more than once.

In eight seasons with the Chargers, Bosa has had the Pro Bowl four times but has appeared in the postseason only twice. That is something he hopes Harbaugh can help change coming off a five-win season in 2023.

Harbaugh is the most accomplished head coach Bosa will be playing for in his tenure with the Chargers. He has found success everywhere he has been, whether it is in college or the NFL. Bosa hopes that success follows him to Los Angeles and they can start turning things around sooner rather than later.
