The Los Angeles Chargers have some work still to do with their salary cap. They need to make some more moves to get under the salary cap and become compliant with league rules. That would mean some veterans still being on the move in the coming days.

With a new regime in place, some of those moves are expected. New head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz will want to reshape the roster in their own vision, moving on from what the previous regime of Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco did.

One of the things Harbaugh wants to do a better job of is establishing the run. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman believes that will help quarterback Justin Herbert, taking pressure off of him to carry the offensive load by relying solely on him passing the ball.

Last season, the Chargers had one of the least productive running games in the NFL. With Austin Ekeler hitting free agency, the team was in the market for a new running back. They wasted little time finding one, as Roman is reuniting with a familiar face.

NFL News & Rumors: Gus Edwards, 2024 NFL Free Agency, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers Updates

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chargers have agreed to a two-year deal with former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards. Edwards and Roman were together in Baltimore for four seasons from 2019-2022, as he goes from one Harbaugh brother to the other, too.

This is a solid addition for Los Angeles as Edwards is coming off the most productive season of his career. He played in all 17 games, carrying the ball 198 times for 810 yards and 13 touchdowns. All three statistics were career-highs as Edwards is an efficient, productive player out of the backfield.

While he doesn’t offer very much as a pass catcher, he will assuredly help the team get their ground game on track on early downs. He knows Roman’s system and what will be expected of him on the field, making for what could be a seamless transition out west.
