The Chicago Bears are a team that can change the landscape of the NFL during the 2024 offseason with some of the decisions they have to make. They hold a lot of cards for the quarterback carousel given the position they are currently in.

The Bears have Justin Fields, a 2021 first-round pick, who has been playing to show that he should be their starter long-term. But, with the No. 1 pick in the draft for a second straight year, will the team opt to build around him again instead of selecting a new quarterback to lead the franchise?

Regardless of what they decide to do, there will be a team that has a new quarterback in 2024. Whether it is a trade for Fields or paying a king’s ransom to move up to the No. 1 spot, the Bears will be making at least one trade this offseason.

Another question they will have to answer is the job security of head coach Matt Eberflus. Eberflus looked to be on the hot seat all season, as his job was in jeopardy heading into Week 5 against the Washington Commanders after an 0-4 start.

The Bears responded resoundingly in that game for their coach, winning 40-20. Since that 0-4 start the team has shown some major signs of improvement. They are 7-5 since and are looking to close the season on a high note in Week 18 at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.

Eberflus seems to have endeared himself to the players in the locker room, as they play hard for him. One of the players who doesn’t want to see Eberflus go is linebacker T.J. Edwards. He recently made an appearance on The Ross Tucker Podcast and explained why he would like to see Eberflus back in 2024.

“The way that he allows us to, again, kind of speak our mind on things that we’re seeing on the field, or even how things are going week to week in terms of the process that we have as a team, I think that speaks volumes.” (H/T OnTapSports)

Eberflus has done a great job of adapting his way. He has come a long way compared to last season, his first as a head coach in the NFL. The team saw an improvement once he began calling the plays defensively, as he took matters into his own hands when the ship was sinking.

With the respect of his players still intact, Eberflus has earned at least one more season as the team’s head coach. Given how well they have finished out this season, it would be a shame for him to not see things through and potentially build on this in 2024.

If Eberflus is open to making some changes on the offensive side of the ball, where the development at quarterback will be imperative regardless of who it is, he could increase his job security as well. Showing he is willing to make the tough calls and changes will only help his case.
