The Detroit Lions are in need of another pass rusher alongside of Aidan Hutchinson, and while they were able to sign Marcus Davenport in free agency, they could still use some help.
That’s why Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay feels that the Lions could try and swing a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers to acquire defensive end Joey Bosa.
Kay suggests that Detroit sends the 29th overall pick to the Chargers in exchange for Bosa, which would give the Lions a lethal pass-rushing tandem while also supplying a quasi-rebuilding Los Angeles squad with a terrific draft asset.
The Chargers restructured Bosa’s contract earlier this offseason to save some money, but he still has another year remaining on his deal after 2024.
Given all of the injury issues Bosa has dealt with over the past couple of years, a first-round pick may be too enticing of an offer for LA to ignore.
Bosa has played in a grand total of 14 games since 2022. This past year, he appeared in nine contests, registering 20 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
When healthy, there is no doubt that the 28-year-old is a force, but Bosa has played just one full season since 2020 and has played under 10 games three times in his eight-year career.
Bosa, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Chargers with the third overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
The Miami native has logged double-digit sacks four times in his professional tenure and has made four trips to the Pro Bowl, most recently doing so in 2021 when he totaled 51 tackles, 10.5 sacks and a hefty seven forced fumbles.
He set a career-high with 12.5 sacks to go along with 70 tackles and four forced fumbles back in 2017.
We’ll see if the Lions try and contact the Chargers about Joey Bosa between now and the NFL Draft later this month.
