The Chicago Bears have long been starving for a quarterback, and they may have finally found their answer in Caleb Williams.

The Bears selected Williams with the No. 1 overall pick of the NFL Draft last Thursday, landing a player who many feel is a generational talent.

It has been a long time since a quarterback has really experienced any legitimate success in Chicago, but one former signal-caller who would certainly know a thing or two about that is Jim McMahon.

McMahon was under center for the Bears when they last won the Super Bowl in January 1986, and as part of a video montage of current and former Chicago athletes posted to the team’s official X account, McMahon had this to say to Williams.

“If I could give you just one piece of advice, that’s to play hard,” McMahon said. “If you play hard, the fans will love you. And if you happen to play hard and win it all, the fans are going to love you forever. Good luck and Bear Down.”

Williams began his collegiate career at Oklahoma in 2021, but transferred to USC after just one season.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a spectacular debut campaign with the Trojans, throwing for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 66.6 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 382 yards and 10 scores.

This past year, Williams actually took a bit of a step back, as he totaled 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five picks while completing 68.6 percent of his throws. He added 11 rushing scores.

Regardless of his relatively disappointing 2023 season, Williams has remained the most highly-regarded prospect of his draft class.

Now, he is entering a situation in Chicago where he has multiple impressive receivers to throw to, plus a very solid defense on top of that.

We’ll see if Caleb Williams can deliver in the Windy City.
