At times, NFL players opt for a hometown discount to remain with their current team when they hit free agency. However, it seems that Chicago Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson has different plans as he approaches free agency this offseason.

Jaylon Johnson, who secured a coveted spot in this season’s Pro Bowl, recently expressed unwavering confidence in his standing as one of the premier cornerbacks in the entire league.

His message to the Bears was unequivocal, indicating his firm expectation of being compensated accordingly in the upcoming season, whether that’s with the Bears or another NFL team.

“Heart’s definitely in Chicago, mind’s definitely on the money. So, I mean, we’ll figure out if we can make them both come together and get something done. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s to come.”

In the aftermath of the season, Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles delivered a bold statement, affirming that Johnson isn’t going anywhere, and they are committed to working towards a mutually beneficial contract agreement.

During the 2023 season with the Bears, Jaylon Johnson ended up recording 36 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble, four interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 10 defended passes.

It remains to be seen whether this pledge will materialize, or if Johnson will explore more lucrative contract options with other teams.
