The Kansas City Chiefs have advantages over their opponent virtually every time that they step on the field. Their biggest advantage comes at the quarterback spot where Patrick Mahomes has proven to be the best player in the NFL.

Just how much value does he bring to the table for the Chiefs? Ben Fawkes, a sports betting writer, asked oddsmakers to rank all 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL in terms of their value against the spread. Not surprisingly, Mahomes came out on top.

In their opinion, Mahomes provides 7.56 points against the spread. Second on the list was Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, who were tied at 6.75. But, everyone knows that quarterbacks are the most important players on the field. Without them, offenses have to change drastically.

Any time a starting quarterback is sidelined, a team’s value and spread will adjust big time. So, Fawkes was interested to know which non-quarterback had the biggest impact on the spread. Once again, it was a Chiefs player coming out on top.

Tight end Travis Kelce is the most valuable non-quarterback when it comes to making spreads according to the oddsmakers. His number comes in at 1.83, meaning he is worth nearly two points on the spread when he is on the field compared to when he is off.

We saw that firsthand this season when the Chiefs lost their season opener to the Detroit Lions with Kelce sidelined by a knee injury. In the two weeks since, which he has played in, Kansas City has picked up two wins looking more like themselves.

Following the Chiefs’ star tight end on the non-quarterback list are two wide receivers; Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings. Hill is worth 1.75 points ATS while Jefferson is at 1.67 points.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase are the only other non-quarterbacks who are worth at least 1.00 points ATS in the NFL.
