The Kansas City Chiefs headed into the NFL offseason with the mindset of doing what they can to reinforce its roster for another Super Bowl run. One way that was achieved by capping off the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by selecting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire from LSU.
The historic LSU offense caught the attention of many and Edwards-Helaire played a pivotal role in that success. He appeared in 15 games totaling 270 carries, 1,867 total yards from scrimmage, and 17 combined touchdowns, displaying versatility on carries and as a receiver.
The original expectation surrounding Edwards-Helaire’s draft stock was that he’d be selected sometime in the second-round, but possibly going as late as round three. A team like the Chiefs that are well-positioned to take a running back helped him to go earlier than many experts anticipated.
The Chiefs do not necessarily need Edwards-Helaire to hit the ground running in order to compete for a Super Bowl victory in 2020. However, Kansas City would simply become even more dangerous to stop as an offense if he were to achieve such results.
Taking all of that into consideration, let’s take a look at the production expected to come from Clyde Edwards-Helaire in 2020.
