Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a wrist injury in the middle of last season and had to undergo surgery to repair it.
Burrow is on the mend and is expected to be ready for Week 1, but the rehabilitation period is obviously still a process.
The good news is that things seem to be looking up, as the 27-year-old provided a positive update on his recovery this week.
“Feel great,” Burrow said on Tuesday, via Eric Edholm of NFL.com. “It’s good to be back.”
Burrow has been participating in the Bengals’ offseason workouts and said it has gone well.
“Felt good the last two days,” Burrow said. “I never really know how it’s going to feel when I wake up the next morning, but I was encouraged by the last couple of days for sure.”
He added that he hasn’t been cleared for contact yet, but that he is making progress.
“I think I’m fully cleared for everything other than contact right now,” he said. “That’ll come in the next month probably. But there’s no rush; season doesn’t start for a while. So, we’re in a good spot.”
The 2023 campaign was a nightmarish one for Burrow.
He began the season with a calf injury that lingered through the first several weeks of the year. Then, just as he appeared to be getting his legs underneath him, Burrow suffered the wrist injury in Week 11.
During the time he was on the field last season, Burrow threw for 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 66.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 91.
Obviously, the LSU product is hoping for better results—and better health—in 2024.
“Whenever you have an injury to your throwing side, you’re never quite sure how it’s going to turn out at the end,” Burrow stated. “But I’m in a good spot. I’m happy with where I’m at, and I’m going to continue to get better.”
We’ll see if Joe Burrow can lead the Bengals back to the playoffs next season.
