The Cincinnati Bengals are getting set to battle the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of last year’s Divisional Round of the playoffs, and Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd is already chirping.
Boyd still harbors some ill will toward some Bills players for making excuses following Cincinnati’s postseason win over them last winter, and he let them know about it ahead of Week 9.
“Going back to the playoff game, when we won in the snow, a couple of their players were saying if it wasn’t snowing they would’ve beat us,” Boyd said, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “We’re here now, so we’re going to see what the outcome is.”
The 28-year-old added that he doesn’t consider the comments made by Buffalo to be motivation for him and, in fairness, brought up something he said following the Bengals’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game last year.
“When you lose it’s always an excuse,” he said. “Just like I said if I’d played in the Chiefs game we would’ve won. But at the end of the day you’ve got to prove it. You’ve got to go out there and do it. So we’re here to get this win.”
The Bengals are rolling right now, having won three straight games to push their record to 4-3 after a rough start to the season. The biggest reason for their turnaround has been the play of quarterback Joe Burrow, whose balky calf appears to be healing as the 2023 campaign progresses.
Through seven games this season, Boyd has logged 33 catches for 244 yards and a couple of touchdowns in a loaded Cincy receiving corps that also includes Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Tyler Boyd has spent his entire eight-year career with in Cincinnati. While he has never made a Pro Bowl, he did register back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019.
The Bengals will battle the Bills on Sunday night.
