The Cleveland Browns traded for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy this week, and now, they are restructuring his contract, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
The Browns are converting the bulk of Jeudy’s $13 million base salary for 2024 into a bonus, which will open up a hefty $10 million in cap space for Cleveland.
This will allow the Browns to further peruse the free-agent market and potentially add another piece.
Cleveland has already re-signed edge rusher Za’Darius Smith while also signing quarterback Jameis Winston and linebacker Jordan Hicks.
The Browns acquired Jeudy from the Denver Broncos for a fifth-round draft pick and a sixth-rounder, which seemed like a small price to pay for the club’s new No. 2 receiver.
Jeudy, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Broncos with the 15th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He played in every game during his rookie campaign and was impressive, catching 52 passes for 856 yards and three touchdowns.
Since then, however, Jeudy has been a pretty big disappointment.
Injuries limited him to 10 contests during his sophomore season, and during that time, he logged 38 catches for 467 yards without reaching the end zone.
He returned to play 15 games in 2022 and enjoyed the best year of his career to date, hauling in 67 receptions for 972 yards and six scores.
This past season, Jeudy regressed, snaring 54 balls for 758 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what Jeudy needed, as he will now join a suddenly deep Cleveland receiving corps that also includes Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore.
We’ll see if Jerry Jeudy can deliver the goods for the Browns in 2024.
